About Extra Duty Solutions

Extra Duty Solutions (EDS) is a fast-growing company that helps law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and other public safety organizations manage extra duty programs efficiently. We handle scheduling, payroll, invoicing, risk mitigation, and the supporting technology so agencies can focus on public safety instead of administrative work. Since 2016, EDS has expanded nationwide and earned a reputation for reliable service, strong customer partnerships, and a platform built specifically for the complexities of public safety operations.

Overview

EDS is a tech-enabled services company. The software we build directly determines how law enforcement agencies run their off-duty programs, how officers get paid, and how customers hire security for their events. Design here is not cosmetic. It is operational. We are looking for a senior UX designer who can own the full spectrum: research, interaction design, visual design, and systems. You will build the design foundation that makes this product team move faster.

What You'll Design

  • The officer experience across our web portals and mobile apps, covering scheduling, job pickup, payment, and availability
  • The customer and internal portal experience, including job posting, officer coordination, and billing
  • Complex workflows: multi-party approval chains, scheduling logic, and service-backed integrations
  • The EDS design system, including components, patterns, and documentation

What You'll Build in Year One

  • A full audit of the current experience across all product surfaces with prioritized findings
  • A design system from the ground up: token-based, component-documented, and in the hands of PMs and engineers
  • End-to-end flows for the consolidated portal experience and a unified UX
  • UX for an instant pay flow, a high-stakes, high-visibility feature that directly affects officer trust

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of UX design experience, with a portfolio that spans apps, web portals, and internal/operational tools
  • Strong interaction design and visual design fundamentals; you can go from concept to high-fidelity without a hand-off chain
  • Experience running user research: knows when to run it, how to design studies, and how to translate findings into product decisions
  • Background designing complex workflows: multi-step processes, service integrations, and data-dense interfaces
  • Enough technical fluency to design realistically within back-end and API constraints
  • Experience building or significantly contributing to a design system
  • Strong communicator; you will be translating between users, PMs, and engineers constantly
  • Salary Range: $90,000 – $110,000 annually.

What Makes You Stand Out?

  • Experience as a solo or lead designer at a product company; you know what it means to own the whole problem
  • Has used gen AI as a design accelerant: rapid prototyping, concept iteration, and research synthesis
  • Background in B2B operational tools, workforce management, field services, or public safety
  • Familiarity with law enforcement culture or agency operations
  • Experience designing payment or financial flows

Why EDS?

You will not be a pair of hands executing on someone else's vision. You will build the design practice at a company with real users, real operational complexity, and a product roadmap with teeth. The design system you build will be used every day. The flows you design will affect how officers get paid and how agencies run. It is a high-ownership role at a company that is actively growing, and design has a seat at the table.

At Extra Duty Solutions, we offer a competitive benefits package, including:
  • Three Weeks PTO/Sick time
  • Paid Holidays
  • Floating Holidays
  • Life Insurance
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance
  • Matching 401(k)
